Night outreach rounds

182 people met on the street each month

Three evenings a week, a van, hot coffee and first names, we go to the people who no longer come to anyone.

Some of our neighbours sleep outside. The street wears people down fastest at night, and that is exactly when most services are closed.

The need

Around 200 people sleep rough in our area on any given night. After a few months outside, many stop asking for help at all: the door has been closed on them too often.

What we do

  • Outreach rounds every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday night, on foot and by van
  • Hot drinks, soup, blankets, hygiene kits and dry socks, the things that keep a body going
  • The same volunteers on the same route, so trust can grow week after week
  • Orientation to emergency shelter, medical care and our own day services when the person is ready

The impact

182 people met on the street each month, and 31 of them moved into stable housing in 2025 with our follow-up team. We measure success in first names, not in cups of soup.

Two hands.
Two hours.

That is all a shift takes. No committee, no training weekend before you are useful: you come, someone shows you, you help. The movement is made of people who showed up once and stayed.

  • Evenings, outreach and soup runs
  • Saturdays, grocery and collections
  • School hours, tutoring and paperwork help
