Back-to-work coaching

64 people back in work or training in 2025

CV workshops, mock interviews and a jacket that fits, the last mile between wanting a job and signing one.

After two years without work, the hardest thing to repair is not the CV. It is the voice that says you will not be picked anyway.

The need

Long-term unemployment locks people out twice: employers screen out the gap in the CV, and the person slowly stops applying. Standard job-centre appointments are too short to undo either.

What we do

  • A six-week cycle: CV and cover-letter workshops, then filmed mock interviews with real recruiters who volunteer their lunch breaks
  • A clothing room where every jobseeker leaves with an interview outfit that fits, theirs to keep
  • Transport cards and childcare relays for interview days, the practical walls nobody talks about
  • A named coach for six months after hiring, because keeping a job is a second victory

The impact

64 people signed a contract or entered training in 2025, 58% of that year’s cohort. The average time to the first interview fell from five months to six weeks.

Two hands.
Two hours.

That is all a shift takes. No committee, no training weekend before you are useful: you come, someone shows you, you help. The movement is made of people who showed up once and stayed.

  • Evenings, outreach and soup runs
  • Saturdays, grocery and collections
  • School hours, tutoring and paperwork help
